Cool Women   a great site with lots of real stories to read about real women. The stories are written by women who are passionate about their subject. They have a cool women timeline too. Check back often, the site is updated regularly. Now part of Section 15.

[Canadian] Heroines  http://heroines.ca a great site with lots of information including this month in history, bios, group histories and a chance to win a new book about Canadian Women each month. You will want to keep visiting to catch the regular updates. Current women of achievement are included in this site.

Celebrating [Canadian] Women's Achievements  http://www.collectionscanada.ca/2/12/index-e.html A series of well written bios that include a reading list about each person.  The series was produced by the National Library of Canada. A set of new bios are added each year for Women's History Month in October. - bilingual

The Canadian Encyclopedia (Online edition) Free access.   http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com  WARNING the Canadian Encyclopedia does not have the financial resources to keep all its entries up to date. You cannot always depend on updates such as date of death i.e. Pauline McGibbon, former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario died in 2001 and this had not bee recorded as of July 2004. - bilingual

The Canadian Dictionary of Biography (Online edition) Free access. http://www.biographi.ca/  WARNING a work in progress that began in 1959 and covers persons who died between the years 1000 and 1920 or whose last known date of activity falls within these years.
HINT: search for women by their maiden name. - bilingual

The Canadian Who's Who 1997 - (Online edition)  For more up to date copy of this annual publication, for other past years, consult either the hard copy or the CD ROM at your local library. Warning not everyone is repeated every year. If you cannot locate the person you are looking for check another year.

There are lots of great sites out there on your favourite famous Canadian Women...mainly about current celebrities in entertainment or sports.  There are a few pages dedicated to historical figures. Some information is tucked away in web pages as part of a more general information site and it may take some work to seek out just the right pages.  WARNING...be sure to use an authoritative page...a page that is an "official" page of an individual or has been developed by a solid organization (i.e. Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, a University or Library or an individual who is a true researcher (i.e. a librarian, teacher, journalist, etc.)

Use a good search engine like Google or Teoma or Yahoo or  a mega search engine like Dogpile and type in the name of the person you are searching.

POLITICIANS  - Many current politicians have their own web site. Here are a couple of the best overall sites for searching for women politicians.

The Canadian Engineering Hall of Fame

SPORTS - check out the sites of the official governing body of the sport activity i.e. Skate Canada. Many of the sports have a "Hall of Fame" that contain bios.
