Ethel Catherwood.
Born Haldamond Co., Ontario April 28, 1908. Died September 26,
1987. She lived in Saskatchewan where she earned the nickname "Saskatoon
Lily" from her fans who watched her perform in track and field events.
Ethel was on the 1928 Canadian Olympic team, the first Olympic games to
allow women to compete. It was the lat day of the 1928 Olympic
Games, and the last event for Canadians that she won a gold medal for
Canada in the high jump when she cleared 5 feet 2 inches (1.588m). She is
a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.
