Gabrielle Roy. Born March 22, 1909. Died July 18,1983. A 3 time winner of the Governor Generalís Award ( 1947, 1957 & 1977) in Literature as well as international award holder, she is one of the most important Canadian writers of the Post World War II Era in Canada. Some of her works have been translated into 15 different languages. Her writings are studied in Canadian schools in their original language and in translation.
